On April 2nd, this coming Saturday, I will be running 70ish miles as a fundraiser for my local Buddhist community. I have recently been gravitating back to Buddhism and in late 2021 I started attending my local Buddhist Temples monthly Zoom meetings. They have not begun meeting in person yet, so the option to attend the monthly Buddhism 101 meetings on zoom was the next best thing.
For the first time in a very long time I feel centered again. The Buddhist teachings seem to make the most sense for me and for how I aspire to live my life.
I wanted to find a way to give back to my new group. I decided to plot out a route from several local Buddhist Temples. I talked to Reverend Kaz about running from temple to temple to raise money and awareness of the Buddhist Temples here in the Central Valley. I proposed that I would run the temples in Visalia, to Reedley, to Parlier, to Kingsburg, to Fowler, and then finish in Fresno. The run will cover about 70 miles. Kaz and I decided that all the money raised would go into a Buddhist Education Program. The money will help students of the Ministry Program buy paying for their room and board for 1 year of studding in Japan. For every $200.00 that we raise, we can support one students with room and board for an entire year.
I'm super excited about this fundraiser. I will have a live tracker set up through my Garmin Connect account. I will have it posted on Twitter (@DavidThull) and Instagram (@davidthull).
I will be starting Saturday's run in Visalia at 4:00am and hopefully finishing in Fresno at 7:45pm on that same day.
If you would like to donate to this fundraiser you can do so on my Instagram fundraiser page that I have linked below.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and following my sometimes crazy life journeys.
